New Year and New Dreams

Mighty Oaks from little acorns grow

As each New Year comes round our thoughts come to the review of the year past and our hopes and dreams for the coming year.

As 2013 passes I look back at a lot of lessons learned. Sometimes it’s hard to look at these positively and sometimes it’s impossible!

The best piece of advice I learned to live by in 2013

Now we are in 2014 and I am preparing to launch my new collection at Showcase Ireland.

I’ve nicknamed my new collection, my sentimental range, I hope that these are a signal of my positive attitude rather than my growing age!

The new range really is all about hopes and dreams for the future!

“Mighty oaks from little acorns grow” is the line that influences this piece which reminds us that from even the smallest great things can be achieved. The idea for this piece came to me when I first became an aunt in 2007. The birth of nephew came as a wonderful 30th Birthday present and changed my perspective so profoundly. Miracles become so possible!

“adopt the pace of nature: her secret is patience” is a gentle message to all new parents to enjoy the time they have with their baby as it won’t be long before they’re grown. My first boy loves me to tell him how long I held him for as a baby. I can just about hold him now but this time has gone oh so fast. One day when he was only 18 months I was listening to the song Galway Girl in the car. I was so struck with the thoughts of him growing and leaving with someone from the other side of the country or world, that I found myself crying at the traffic lights!

“Carry your love forever” is the gentle message that our babies will only be small for a short while and we will hold them tight. They will grow and as we face the future we will always carry their love close. I sketched this from a photo, it was  day with a wide open sky,  Boy no. 1 was running ahead over the big wide sand but no. 2 was still snuggling into me. I know when we are on the beach next he will be running with him!

“wings unfolding in the sky” Offers a meaningful and lasting expression of sympathy. I’m not sure how I feel about my own death or the after life but I feel strongly about acknowledging those who have gone. I made this piece with many people in mind, it doesn’t matter if you live to a ripe old age or live here only fleetingly your impact is significant and the love is always there.

“A dream you dream together” is the perfect gift for a couple in love, we see a small golden moon shiny over a couple as they look out over the sea. Are they a young couple starting life or a couple close to retirement ready for a cruise?

Or is it me and my better half dreaming of a full nights sleep?

What was the best piece of advise you took in 2013 and how has it enhanced your life? Will you be competing with me in 2014 for sentimentality?
