Tests were performed on a random bunch of people. 4 exactly the same chocolate brownie, 1 in a paper bag, 1 on a paper plate ,1 on a desert plate and one on a fancy plate dusted with icing sugar. The participants had to score each brownie on moistness, richness and over all taste and quality
Guess what – out of 4 identical brownies the cake on the fancy plate won in each category with every participant!
So it’s all about presentation or is it?
We’ve all heard the stories about the dinner party host being caught with the take away cartons in the bin. If the cartons hadn’t been found would the guests have copped on.
Of course if you put tasteless food on fancy plates you won’t fool everyone.
I love food however I’m not so keen on lots of time in the kitchen so I like to choose simple quality ingredients and get out the fancy dishes.
Simple salads and I love the simplicity of cheese on cocktail sticks -a good strong vintage cheddar with juicy red and green grapes and for a greek twist, feta with cherry tomatoes and olives on cocktail sticks and a glass of wine.
My fav unusual yet simple salad
Broccoli Salad
A head of broccoli broken into small bite sized pieces
a red onion diced
rasher of bacon diced and fried
a tablespoon of mayonaise
a teaspoon of sugar
a tablespoon of white wine vinegar
Prepare the salad dressing by whisking the mayonnaise, sugar and vinegar in a salad bowl add the rest of the ingredients and mix sprinkle with seeds or nuts to taste.
Serve in a very pretty bowl
