When Jane from Shells Little Shop contacted me about stocking my work I was really excited – I checked out the cool website and I wanted to head straight to Sligo and soak up some of the fab surfing foodie atmosphere.
Jane and Miles live the life – and have even written a book about it “Surf Cafe Living – cooking, entertaining and living by the sea” and this year they have been awarded highly commended in The Irish Times Best Shops.
To give you a wee introduction to Shells I asked Jane to answer a few questions.
What do people love about your store?
They love the style and variety of items. The most often used term is a Treasure Trove. In every corner there is something different, something beautiful. People often grab a latte and spend time browsing and enjoying the atmosphere of our store. We have a lot of Irish designers- but contemporary affordable ranges that people love to bring home.
What do your Customers say about my work?
The thing that jumps out is the emotion they bring out. For us the range flies out and more often it’s people buying for themselves- their own personal gift. They fall in love with a piece, eye it up for a day or two and run in and buy it. It’s always a lovely experience selling a Sarah McKenna Piece as the customer is beaming with joy when they leave with it.

Being a lover of fresh wild flowers I LOVE the vases! Love their shape, message and most of all how fresh cut flowers look in it
What do have in stock which goes well with my work?
We partnered it with Our beautiful range of art prints by Sweet William – these prints are feminine, intricate and again speak to people immediately. We also sell fresh flowers weekly in summer and they sit so well alongside the Sarah McKenna range.
