Music has such a strong connection to emotions. We all want to give a gift that invokes an emotional response and we all want to receive a gift that touches our hearts!
So many times I’d stop while listening to a song. I’d get that LIGHTBULB moment “that’s me right now!”
So I started to collect those lines that created a spark. I put them all in a notebook, not sure what I would do with them but I knew that I needed to say it in clay.
The first time I got to use them popped up while designing a set of pieces for a Bridge Street Studios exhibition. It was very personal work so it seemed apt for me to chose lyrics that spoke to me. I made 9 pieces one for each year spent in my studio. I used only a teeny portion of the lyric. I wanted to have the viewer hum or sing the song to find the title, that way they had participated by reminding themselves of there own emotional connection to the song.
My close friend was marrying and I wanted something very special for them. I decided that a memento of their special day would mean the most, so they would just have to wait for their gift. What a wonderful day we had! Luckily I videoed the first dance as the excitement (and the bubbly) got the better of me and I couldn’t quite recall the song the next day!
I love to hear what music couple chose to accompany them during their celebrations and I’m an auld romantic I often listen to the chosen music while I make their special piece!
